CONWAY (AP) — Horry County has tightened rules for seeing probate court files after documents from a case involving a Myrtle Beach city councilman went missing.
The Sun News reports the documents concerned a case alleging Councilman Wayne Gray mishandled the estate of a widow. Court workers have tried to reconstruct the case file with documents provided by the attorney’s widow. But many documents, including those outlining the allegations against Gray, are still missing.
Gray says he doesn’t know what happened to them and the attorney for the widow says she’s surprised they are missing.
Now all Horry County probate case files must be retrieved by a court worker and people must sign for them and review them under supervision. Before, people could retrieve files on their own.
