CHARLESTON (AP) — Authorities say a 76-year-old Lincolnville man was justified in shooting a suspected robber to death.
Prosecutor Scarlett Wilson and Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon said Thursday that the determination had been made for Charles Petit.
Authorities say Petit shot a 25-year-old man after he was confronted outside his home early Sunday. The man used a stun gun disguised as a cellphone to shock Petit, who then shot him in the chest with a .38-caliber handgun.
Officials said Robert Deziel of Summerville had on an extra layer of clothing, and officials say they think he meant to rob Petit, then shed a layer of clothing as he ran away.
Petit called 911 to report the shooting.
