Columbia hires West Virginia police chief

COLUMBIA (AP) — The city of Columbia has hired the police chief in Huntington, W.Va., to lead its troubled police department.

City Manager Teresa Wilson announced the hiring of William Holbrook on Friday morning.

Columbia has had eight permanent or interim police chiefs in the last seven years.

The 49-year-old Holbrook has been police chief in his hometown since 2007.

The last man to hold the Columbia job on a permanent basis, Randy Scott, resigned last April saying he was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
