SC Lt. Gov. candidate McMaster meets with ex-rival

GREENVILLE— The Republican leading the GOP primary race for South Carolina lieutenant governor is appearing with the fourth-place finisher.

Former Attorney General Henry McMaster has scheduled a news conference Thursday in Greenville with Ray Moore.

McMaster is the only certain candidate heading for a June 24 runoff. He received about 44 percent of Tuesday’s votes.

Second place remains too close to call between retired Kiawah Island developer Pat McKinney and Mike Campbell, son of the late Gov. Carroll Campbell. Both received about 24 percent of the vote, with McKinney slightly leading. An automatic recount is expected to Friday.

Moore received 8 percent of the vote. The retired Army chaplain’s platform involved encouraging parents to take their children out of public schools to homeschool or enroll them in Christian schools.
