LATTA (AP) — The state department of employment and workforce says Latta Police Chief Crystal Moore was fired without cause in April.
The Morning News of Florence reported Wednesday that after a four-hour hearing, the panel found Moore’s actions were not insubordinate and were in accord with her law enforcement duties, meaning she is eligible for back benefits.
Latta Mayor Earl Bullard fired Moore on April 15 after she refused to sign seven unexplained reprimands he had given her. Moore said she was fired because she is gay.
The town’s citizens voted in May to put the council in charge of the town’s business instead of the mayor. The council then voted to reinstate Moore, who began work Monday.
Moore says she hopes the findings will allow her to clear her record.
