South Carolina Sheriff: Deputy feared for life in shooting

A South Carolina sheriff’s office says an officer shot and killed a man earlier this month because the officer feared for his life.
Dillon County Capt. Cliff Arnette said in a news release Monday night that deputies were looking for 40-year-old James Gerald Davis on a domestic violence charge July 13 and were unable to find him at his home in Lake View.
Arnette said after deputies left, they were told Davis was threatening to harm himself. Deputies returned and Arnette said an officer who feared for his life shot Davis.
The deputy’s name hasn’t been released. The officer wasn’t hurt. The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating. The officer and suspect’s race haven’t been released.
Lake View is about 130 miles (210 kilometers) northeast of Charleston.
