A 68-year-old woman will get a $1.5 million settlement for injuries sustained in a rear-end car accident—in notoriously tightfisted Lexington County. The identities of all parties to the suit were kept confidential by the plaintiff’s attorney. In August 2012, the plaintiff was a passenger in a car that had come to a stop waiting for a car in front of it to make a left-hand turn. The defendant driver had not seen that the cars ahead had stopped and slammed into the back of plaintiff’s car at 45 to 50 mph. The collision knocked the plaintiff’s car into the rear of a furniture truck waiting ahead of it.

A Mount Pleasant kayaking company’s insurer has agreed to pay $500,000 to settle a wrongful death case arising from an employee’s car crash. The suit alleged that an employee of Natures Adventures Outfitters caused a fatal crash on Highway 17 near Charleston in September 2009.
