Shannon Furr Bobertz of Turner Padget Graham & Laney has joined the national board of directors of the American Board of Trial Advocates. She is a shareholder in the Columbia office and concentrates her practice in torts and insurance, municipal law and insurance coverage law.

Also at Turner Padget, Andrew W. Kunz has joined the Columbia office as an associate practicing in the area of product liability.

McAngus Goudelock & Courie said that Alan Jones and Shayna Rasmussen have joined the firm’s Myrtle Beach office. Jones’ practice focuses on insurance defense litigation. Rasmussen’s practice focuses on workers’ compensation defense.

The South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association has new officers.

President is Molly H. Craig of the Hood Law Firm of Charleston; president-elect is Sterling G. Davies of McAngus, Goudelock & Courie in Columbia; treasurer is Curtis L. Ott of Turner Padget Graham & Laney in Columbia; and secretary is Ronald K. Wray II of Gallivan White & Boyd in Greenville.

George A. Taylor has joined Callison Tighe & Robinson in Columbia as an associate. Taylor is a former Air Force captain and a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law.

John F. Kuppens, a partner in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough’s Columbia office, has been elected to a three-year term as a national director for DRI – The Voice of the Defense Bar. Kuppens concentrates his practice in product liability litigation and regulatory counseling.

Carol B. Ervin, a partner in the Charleston’s Young Clement Rivers, has been elected to the board of directors of ALFA International and named vice chair of the organization.  ALFA International is a global network of independent business-focused law firms.

Outside the Law

Collins & Lacy said Ross B. Plyler has been elected to serve on the Alumni Association board of directors for Leadership Greenville.
