Batesburg-Leesville to get domestic violence court

By: The Associated Press//December 28, 2012

BATESBURG-LEESVILLE (AP) – The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office is sending one of its attorneys to Batesburg-Leesville once a month to prosecute criminal domestic violence cases.

The prosecutor will head to the Lexington County town starting in January to try all first offense criminal domestic violence cases. Currently, those cases are prosecuted by law enforcement officers.

The effort is part of the Attorney General’s Office’s new Criminal Domestic Violence Courts. One judge will hear all the cases, increasing efficiency and improving how the cases are handled.

Officials say the Batesburg-Leesville court will be the fourth Criminal Domestic Violence Court in the state.
