Miss SC apologizes for mobile home comment

COLUMBIA (AP) — Miss South Carolina Brooke Mosteller and the director of the state pageant are apologizing if anyone was offended by Mosteller’s joke about mobile homes as she introduced herself at the Miss America pageant.

At Sunday’s pageant, Mosteller said in a pre-recorded statement: “From the state where 20 percent of our homes are mobile because that’s how we roll, I’m Brooke Mosteller, Miss South Carolina.”

Mosteller released a statement Wednesday with Miss South Carolina pageant executive director Ashley Byrd saying they came up with the line together trying to be creative and funny. They say they regret that is was considered insensitive and think South Carolina is an amazing place.

Recent U.S. Census figures show about 18 percent or people in South Carolina live in mobile homes.
