CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — A 33-year-old Horry County woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for fatally shooting her husband in 2013.
Multiple media outlets report that a jury found Heather Sims guilty Friday of voluntary manslaughter in the death of 35-year-old David Sims Jr. at their Conway home. Her 25-year sentence was suspended to 10 years plus five years of probation.
Heather Sims claimed she shot her husband in the chest on Aug. 11, 2013, in self-defense, after the couple fought.
Officers who responded to the home found David Sims dead and Heather Sims stabbed.
She asked the judge for leniency for the sake of the couple’s 2-year-old son, who was born in March 2013.
Defense attorney Morgan Martin argued his client fired the gun because she was scared.
