CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford, who is running for re-election in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District, says he won’t support Donald Trump if the businessman wins the GOP presidential nomination.
But Sanford’s primary opponent, state Rep. Jenny Horne of Summerville, said in a release Wednesday that she will. And she says Sanford’s refusal to do so is a slap in the face to those voters who gave Trump a wide victory in last month’s South Carolina GOP presidential primary.
Horne says she wonders if Sanford will support a Democrat for president in November. Sanford, who has endorsed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, said Tuesday he can’t support Trump at any level.
