Officials to see if ex-NC lawmaker voted in both states

By: The Associated Press//July 26, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Officials in South Carolina have requested voting records to see if former North Carolina Rep. Charles Jeter voted twice in the 2004 election.

North Carolina State Board of Elections records show Charles R. Jeter voted in the November 2004 election in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

South Carolina records show Charles R. Jeter also voted in Greenville County, South Carolina, on the same day.

WBTV-TV first reported the story. Jeter told the station he did not vote twice. Records show the former Republican lawmaker has only voted in North Carolina since 2004.

South Carolina Election Commission spokesman Chris Whitmire says it is possible a poll worker entered the wrong name. He says officials have asked for the poll logs from Greenville County to see if Jeter signed the voter list.
