SUMTER, S.C. (AP) — The nation’s No. 2 elected Democrat says Congress needs more level-headed representatives like his former staffer Fran Person.
Vice President Joe Biden told a crowd of around 500 in Sumter on Tuesday that Republicans don’t understand issues important to most Americans, like the cost of higher education. Biden says Democratic candidates like Person can help alleviate Capitol Hill gridlock.
Biden spoke alongside Person and Jim Clyburn, South Carolina’s lone congressional Democrat one week before the presidential election. The vice president said he didn’t want to spend much time talking about Donald Trump. But Biden several swipes at the GOP nominee, saying he “is already doing damage to us internationally” with brash statements and lack of foreign policy knowledge.
Biden, Clyburn and Person were scheduled to visit Rock Hill later Tuesday.
