YORK (AP) A man is suing police in South Carolina for a chase that led to a fatal crash that killed his wife in 2016.
William Bartell has sued York County, the city of Rock Hill, the Rock Hill Police Department, the former mayor, the police chief and the officers involved.
The lawsuit contends Rock Hill police were involved in a “high-speed chase” when a drug suspect’s car hit the vehicle in which Virginia Bartell was a passenger. The lawsuit says the chase was an “unreasonable risk.”
Rock Hill police say they had turned off their sirens and blue lights before McClinton hit Wright’s vehicle.
York County and Rock Hill officials said they have not been served with the lawsuit and could not comment.
