The University of South Carolina School of Law named nine alumni to be recipients of the 2018 Compleat Lawyer Awards.

The awards are given out annually to recognize the professional and civic accomplishments of the school’s alumni, and are given in three categories based on the amount of years the recipients have been practicing.

Those receiving awards will be recognized at a ceremony at the USC School of Law on April 19.

“The recipients of this year’s Compleat Lawyer Awards include trailblazers, leaders of national and state organizations and are all deeply involved in giving back, both to the profession and to their communities,” School of Law Dean Robert M. Wilcox said in a release. “They are excellent examples of what it means to be a Compleat Lawyer, and we are proud to celebrate their successes.”

Platinum award-winners are lawyers who have been practicing 31 years or more. This year’s platinum winners are H. Mills Gallivan, a 1976 alumnus from Greenville; Sarah Leverette, a 1943 alumna in Columbia; and Edward G. Menzie, a 1971 alumnus also in Columbia.

Gold Awards go to lawyers who have practiced between 16 and 30 years. Gold winners are Anne McGinness Kearse, a 1998 alumna in Mount Pleasant; Daniel Sanders, a 1989 alumnus from Greenville; and John H. Tiller, a 1987 alumnus from Charleston.

Silver Awards are for attorneys with 15 years experience or less. The recipients this year are Joshua A. Bennett, a 2011 alumnus from Columbia; Allen Mattison “Matt” Bogan, a 2004 alumnus in Columbia; and D. Nichole Davis, a 2011 alumna located in Columbia.

All recipients were nominated by members of the South Carolina Bar or by the public and were chosen by a committee made up of the chief justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court, the chief judge of the South Carolina Court of Appeals, the president of the South Carolina Bar, the USC School of Law’s dean and the co-chair of the USC Law School Alumni Council.

This is the 26th year that the awards have been given.
