Prosecutor’s aide pleads guilty; could testify against boss

An aide to a South Carolina prosecutor has pleaded guilty to fraud charges and agreed to testify against her boss.
The State newspaper reports that at Nicole Holland’s guilty plea Thursday, prosecutors suggested Solicitor Dan Johnson may face additional charges including obstruction of justice.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Winston Holliday said new charges should be filed later this month but gave no details.
Holland pleaded guilty to mail and wire fraud. Her sentencing date has not been set.
Prosecutors say Holland charged a bill from a hotel and one from an orthodontist to a government credit card.
Johnson faces similar charges. He was in court Thursday with his lawyer, who said they were preparing for trial.
Johnson has been suspended from his job as chief prosecutor for Richland and Kershaw counties.
