Man faces dogfighting charges after deputies find 27 dogs

A South Carolina man faces 27 counts of animal fighting and baiting after deputies found dogs while serving an unrelated warrant.
Sumter County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Adrienne Sarvis tells The Sumter Item that Alva Timmons Ridgeway faces up to 135 years in prison and $135,000 in fines.
Ridgeway also faces 24 counts of misdemeanor and felony animal mistreatment charges, one count of possessing a firearm by a felon and one count of possessing a stolen vehicle.
Newly released photos show dogs with bite marks and scars, including one with a split ear. One of the 27 dogs has been euthanized and two remain in severe condition. Ridgeway has signed over the dogs to Sumter County.
Ridgeway is jailed, with bail set at $127,000. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
