Orangeburg Co. magistrate judge suspended

Disciplinary action: Placed on interim suspension on Feb. 12

Background: The Office of Disciplinary Counsel filed a petition asking the Supreme Court to place Gillens, an Orangeburg County magistrate judge, on interim suspension pursuant to the Rules for Judicial Disciplinary Enforcement. The petition was granted, and Gillens was placed on interim suspension from any and all judicial duties until further order by the court. The order does not specify the reasons for the suspension, but Gillens was charged with DUI after he was involved in a crash on Jan. 31. Gillens also has a pending DUI charge stemming from an earlier incident.
