Driver dies after being stunned at end of police chase

ANDERSON (AP) — Anderson County authorities say a man has died after he was stunned with a following a high-speed chase involving sheriff’s deputies and the Highway Patrol.

Sheriff John Skipper says deputies spotted a man driving erratically Sunday on state Highway 24 in Townville. Skipper says Brad Evans, 31, refused to stop when officers flashed their lights and they began chasing him at speeds reaching 80 mph.

The sheriff says the chase ended around12:15 p.m. state Highway 81 in Starr when Evans’ car hit a fence. Skipper says Evans ran from the crash scene and officers used a Taser when he resisted arrest.

Coroner Greg Shore says Evans was taken to AnMed Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead around 1 p.m. Evans had a history of heart problems, and had heart surgery before the incident, Shore said.

An autopsy was planned Monday.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the death.
