Lawyers on the move

Pope Zeigler, a public finance and governmental law firm with offices in Columbia, Charlotte, and Spartanburg, has changed its corporate name to Pope Flynn following the departure of one of the firm’s founding members. Pope Flynn will be led by a management committee of three members: Joe Lucas, Matt Davis and Lawrence Flynn.

Belton Zeigler, an experienced South Carolina utility, environmental and energy law attorney, has joined Womble Carlyle’s Columbia office. Zeigler has extensive experience in the state regulation of solar and nuclear power and has been instrumental in shaping South Carolina’s laws regulating those industries. Zeigler is a founding board member of the Congaree Land Trust.

Rhonda Smith, a workers’ compensation defense lawyer, has joined McAngus Goudelock & Courie’s Columbia office. She received her bachelor of science degree from the University of South Carolina and a juris doctor from Charlotte School of Law.

Hedrick Gardner Kincheloe & Garofalo, a leading litigation and dispute management law firm, announced that Jonathan Roquemore will be joining the firm as a partner in its Columbia office. He will practice in the area of civil litigation.

Stephen A. Spitz, of counsel with Stevens & Lee of Charleston, was recently designated as a Practicing Lawyer Advisers for “Restatement of the Law Fourth, Property,” a project of the American Law Institute. A geographically diverse selection of practitioners, judges and scholars make up the advisers who will examine property law. Spitz practices real estate, property and equity law and is also a certified mediator in disputes involving real estate and other matters outside the litigation process.

McAngus Goudelock & Courie, a regional insurance defense firm, has opened an office in Nashville, Tennessee. It is the firm’s 12^th office in the Southeast. Four new attorneys joining the Nashville office are Paul Brewer, Joey Johnsen, Chuck Mangelsdorf and Stephen Morton.

The Adams and Reese Columbia office held its second pro bono-thon in a “Spring 2015 Friday Blitz” on March 27, as eight attorneys and 10 law students answered more than 55 legal questions using the South Carolina Bar’s Law Answers program. The project was in conjunction with the South Carolina Bar and University of South Carolina School of Law. Volunteer lawyers from SCANA assisted with the project.  Adams and Reese attorneys donated 6,135 pro bono hours in 2014, and Columbia office attorneys donated 382 hours of that total. In the last five years, Adams and Reese attorneys have donated more than 30,000 pro bono hours.
