Kittredge taps Shearouse as state court administrator

Daniel E. Shearouse has returned to the South Carolina Judicial Branch as the newly appointed state court administrator.

A lawyer with long ties to the South Carolina Supreme Court has been named state court administrator for the South Carolina Judicial Branch.

Daniel E. Shearouse was appointed to the position by state Chief Justice John W. Kittredge, a Judicial Branch news release says.

“I am so pleased to announce that our outstanding Clerk of Court Dan Shearouse has accepted my appointment as the State Court Administrator, effective August 1, 2024,” the chief justice said in the release. “Dan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this important position, and I am confident that everyone joins me in congratulating him and thanking him for his service.”

The appointment brings Shearouse back into state service. He was appointed as the state Supreme Court’s clerk in 1998, the release says, and retired in 2021. He also was appointed the court’s chief staff attorney in 1986.

His legal career also includes 29 years active and reserve service with the Army, from which he retired as a colonel.

He graduated in 1979 from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
