Allen Clardy, Jr., Attorney at The Clardy Law Firm in Greenville, has practiced injury law for 31 years. Being a trial lawyer was what attracted him to becoming an attorney. When he first started working, Clardy handled a variety of trial work including construction defense and family court matters but began to have success in plaintiff’s injury cases and focused in that area because it was what he enjoyed.
Reflecting on his career, Clardy remembered trying a case in front of Judge Pyle while struggling to lay a proper foundation for a piece of evidence to be admitted. The judge patiently waited and sustained the defendant attorney’s objection, directing him to try again in a serious but supportive way. Clardy eventually figured out what he needed to do and was able to proceed, noting how considerate both the judge and defense attorney were in teaching him how to practice law under pressure with a jury present.
Clardy said, “Being a leader is really all about being a servant to those around you. And it is much more important ‘who you are’ than ‘what you do.'” He serves on the Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection Committee of the South Carolina Bar.
