PICKENS (AP) — The officer who was fired from Pickens police after ticketing Clemson head football coach Dabo Swinney has dropped his wrongful-termination lawsuit against the city.

The Independent-Mail of Anderson reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/13Bm0Q5 ) that 31-year-old Michael McClatchy was hired by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office in late May and decided not to pursue the lawsuit.

His attorney Chuck Allen says McClatchy just wants to serve his community as a law enforcement officer.

The city maintains McClatchy was not fired for ticketing Swinney. Officials say he was fired for posting his version of events on a South Carolina message board while still on duty and using a police department computer.

McClatchy ticketed Swinney going 63 mph in a 35-mph zone last September as the coach waited to do his weekly radio show.
