SPARTANBURG (AP) — An 18-year-old Greer High School student is charged with for a fiery crash that killed a 40-year-old man last summer.

The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported that Daniel Woosley’s bond was set at $50,000 Friday.

The Highway Patrol says Woosley’s vehicle crossed the center line on Highway 101 in Greer early on July 24, 2012, and crashed head-on with a vehicle driven by Daniel Nelson of Boiling Springs. Nelson was trapped inside and died at the scene. Woosley was hospitalized for 11 days.

Woosley was initially charged with driving too fast for conditions. His charges were upgraded Thursday after prosecutors subpoenaed his medical records.

Prosecutors say Woosley’s blood tested positive for methamphetamine, benzodiazepines and marijuana, and his blood-alcohol level was 0.03. South Carolina’s legal limit is 0.08 percent.
