On March 4, 2020, plaintiff Derrick Smith was using a crop conveyor and computer terminal while on the job at Nucor Steel when the crop conveyor jammed, causing its plate covering to shift beneath Smith’s feet, knocking him down. Mayfran International designed the equipment for Nucor Steel. Smith alleged that the defective design of the equipment caused his injuries and claimed losses in earning capacity, since he was unable to return to work, and future medical care.
