BISHOPVILLE (AP) – The former public works director in Lee County has been indicted on an embezzlement charge.
U.S. Attorney William Nettles says 39-year-old John Muldrow is accused of taking more than $5,000 of county property for his personal use.
Multiple media outlets reported that Muldrow is accused of taking the property between January and May. He could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and fined $250,000 if he is convicted.
The Morning News of Florence reported Muldrow had been arrested May 20 after sheriff’s deputies found marijuana plants growing outside the home he shared with his brother.
It was unclear if Muldrow had an attorney.
