Rick Morgan is a partner at Burr & Forman in Columbia, with 48 years of practice. He earned his law degree from the University of Toledo in 1977. Before law school, he served in the military as a training officer and company commander of a basic training company.

Morgan concentrates his practice on management-side labor and employment law. A memorable matter involved representing a small business owner sued for an alleged non-compete violation by former employers represented by firms from Atlanta, Houston and Philadelphia. Despite a temporary restraining order being issued, the injunction was denied and a three-week merits hearing concluded with a ruling awarding Morgan’s client more than $1 million in damages.

His bar leadership includes serving as Chair of the South Carolina Bar’s Labor and Employment Law Section, where he has held numerous roles over the years, and a one-year term as a member of the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates.

He said management-side labor and employment law was a natural fit because it “blends my passion for people, law, and business in a corporate setting.”
